Airborne Pollutants May Affect Sperm Quality and Lead to Infertility

Pollution has been identified as a factor leading to lower conception rates and higher rates of pregnancy loss, following heart and respiratory diseases, inflammation, and even strokes.

The discharge of hydrocarbons, dust, and chemicals in the air contributes to pollution. Prolonged exposure to these pollutants can have detrimental effects on the human body.

Exposure to air pollution can lead to various health issues such as irregular heartbeats, the development of chronic bronchitis, irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, shortness of breath, coughing, and a feeling of tightness in the chest.

According to doctors, while it may be challenging to directly attribute specific problems to air pollution, it can be considered a contributing factor. The exposure to polluted air has the potential to increase the risk of miscarriage, low birth weight, and infertility.

In-cabin air pollutants can be more dangerous compared to outdoor air pollutants due to several factors. Some car interior materials, such as upholstery, carpets, and plastics, can emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air. These compounds can contribute to poor indoor air quality within the car cabin.

Unlike outdoor environments where air can circulate freely, car cabins have limited ventilation. This can lead to poor air exchange and the accumulation of pollutants. Inadequate ventilation can further worsen the concentration of pollutants and reduce the supply of fresh air.

People tend to spend a significant amount of time inside vehicles, especially during commutes or long drives. And in that way, prolonged exposure to elevated levels of pollutants increases the risk of adverse health effects like miscarriage, low birth weight, and infertility.

It is important to ensure proper maintenance of car ventilation systems, regularly replace air filters, and minimize the use of potential pollutant sources inside the car to reduce the risk of in-cabin air pollution.
